My friend Annemarie Lawless has a beautiful blog called ALittleMuse.com inspired by her wonderful daughter, Tallulah Rose. They (together with super-talented photographer father Michael Sanders) live in NYC so I don't get to see them as often as I would like, but, we did get to catch up earlier this year over a game of croquet, no less. I was chaperoning Evie (my 9 year old bezzie) as she was being shot for ES magazine, you know, the usual afternoon. Cue lots of cute children and some weird dancing and embarrassing running my me:

This post is play date, role model and inspiration all wrapped up into one. I met Jackie a few years ago at our mutual friend the late photographer Corinne Day’s house. I had only just the day before read about the UBER stylist/photographer/blogger of the insanely stylish and successful Show Me Your Wardrobe in that month’s In Style Magazine. Michael introduced us and instantly I felt as if I had known her forever. My idea for a little muse was germinating and I shared it with Jackie. She was incredibly encouraging and supportive determined to tell me everything she wished she had known when she first started Show me Your Wardrobe. I am forever grateful to Britain’s top Fashion Blogger! The stars aligned this past Summer when we were able to spend some time together in London. I suggested we play croquet! We were in England after all and Jackie had access to the most beautiful garden where she lives in Kensington. The day turned out even more special as she was spending it with her best friend make up artist Emma White Turle’s daughter the ADORABLE Evie! Evie was being photographed in the square for a fashion story for ES Magazine. Tallulah watched wide eyed as Evie would flit back and forth changing dresses for her next shot. Excitement all around- particularly when at one moment a bike messenger brought a gift for Jackie from Emporio Armani-a new pair of sunglasses! Tallulah’s silliness and enthusiasm was off the charts that day not surprisingly with Jackie’s effervescent and playful spirit abound! It's a time of year when fashionistas peacock around in their finery and a fabulous publication called The Daily gets distributed - how can I put this - daily, whilst the shows are on. I met my husband, Matthew, when I was assisting the fashion director of Vogue and he was assisting the photographer Corinne Day. I cannot believe it has been a year since Corinne passed away and I wanted to do a little post on the first exhibition since her death, 'Corinne Day, The Face' which is on at the Gimpel Fils gallery, running from 1 September until 1 October. I cannot find the words to do her work justice so instead I simply urge you to go and enjoy her breathtakingly beautiful photographs.

The Kooples (named after the way French people pronounce the English word couples) is a label that - in my mind anyway - appeared out of nowhere and became an instant firm favourite. I could live in one of their stores and got very excited when I noticed that they had their own magazine....so you can just imagine how excited I got when an email popped up on my screen asking if I would like to cast, shoot and write about some beautiful couples I know for the next issue. And ta-daa! It is out at last, in all 130 of their stores. Pick up your copy now (it's free) but in the meantime enjoy these....

In case you hadn't heard Dolce & Gabbana is now available at Net-a-Porter, and to celebrate they threw a fabulous party where you got to have your photo taken on a couple of vintage scooters (with an Italian street-scene as a backdrop no less) that got made into a picture postcard, listen to an acoustic set from Sunday Girl, chow down on canapes by Locanda Locatelli, sip Martini Gold and play spot the celebrity - my favourite was Queen Latifah in case you're interested...

It's always such a pleasure to be included in these Net-a-Porter videos (and please note that I don't look so startled this time), really hope you enjoy; personally I just love seeing what everybody wore...

Have you been watching The Model Agency on Channel 4? Pure TV gold. I think you can catch up on 4oD but in the meantime....

....the good people at Premier Models have set about raising money for cancer charity Teens Unite, by printing a set of exclusive t-shirts with catch phrases that were born as a result of the TV show - how can we forget 'asshole idiot', 'turn that frown upside down' and 'we are not actors, but we are acting'. I had the pleasure of shooting Premier owner Carole White and the two young starlettes of the show, India Farrell and Leomie Anderson in the t-shirts which you can bid on via ebay HERE. Remember: each unisex t-shirt has only three print runs so these are highly collectable and will come signed by every member of The Model Agency.

If you haven't been get yourself down to Selfridges (the Oxfam pop-up is in the basement) asap and immerse yourself in a pure, unadulterated vintage haven. It's only there till the 10th April so get a move on!

I decided to turn my mannequins into a girl band (as you do), they're called The Oxfamettes, they're rather cool don't you think? The 'groupies' are real Oxfam staffers who went along with my, ahem, girl band idea....then I styled up some real people (thank you Alex, thank you Erin) in clothes that are genuinely available to buy in the pop-up store right now.

There's always the bit where Janice Dickinson dragged her bemused looking boyfriend on stage and made us all HOLLEEERRRR or when Mica Paris sang FULL VOLUME whilst we ate our four course lunch? And let's not forget the actual fashion show complete with miniature dogs groomed to within an inch of their lives. But you know what...I'll be coming back next year, not with bells on but with a fierce tan!

I don't get photographed very often, I guess it's because I am alarmingly forgettable, not in a self-depricating 'oh isn't she wonderfully humble' sort of way but a truly 'have we met?' kind of way. Err, yes, I photographed you for my blog last week; I came over to your house, it's Jackie, Jackie from ShowMeYourWardrobe....You see the thing is, I don't have a thing, a hook, that identifiable characteristic that people associate with you - Kate Lanphear has her peroxide sharp crop and fierce leather vibe going on; Anna Dello Russo has her slick brown hair and vibrant catwalk looks; Tavi has the eccentric granny chic thing covered and so on and so on. Anyway....

Instead of bombarding you with images that are already splattered across the virtual highway I thought I’d introduce you to my version of a fashion week round up; may I present you with ‘A 12 Step Guide to (Surviving) The Shows’ (this applies to NYC, London, Milan and Paris).

1) The Fashion Stop-And-Chat
It should last exactly one minute and not a second longer; ideally you should have a Blackberry/iPhone in one hand and an inordinately large designer handbag dangling from the other whilst clutching a coffee/bottle of water and show tickets firmly in your manicured fingers. This we shall call the Fashion Balance. Begin with a rather high-pitched "Hi, how are you?" as if it is a really big surprise that you have bumped into a fashion editor/stylist/assistant/writer/blogger at a fashion show during fashion week. Wait for her/gay him to ask how you are, reply quickly with the obligatory "Really well thanks, sooo busy" and go straight into the compliment "I love your bag/shoes/hair/top". Wait for the thanks, smile and finish with "We must catch up properly after the shows" and go. Exit. Vamoush.

2) The Twelve Year Old With A Clipboard
When one is accosted by The Twelve Year Old With A Clipboard one must adopt a soft yet firm tone, one that says 'I respect you and your Rymann bit of stationary but don't mess with me I am important'.

3) The Fashion Text/Tweet
Adopt a quasi Californian tone and a general air of nonchalance at all times. Nothing is merely bad, it's 'an absolute nightMARE'. If you think something is amazing it's 'amazoid'; obviously is 'obvs' and if you feel ambivalent it's 'blaaahhh'. Wine is ‘vino’ and you really cannot use enough exclamation marks!!!! The front row is referred to as frow and it is preferable to end your message with #LFW or *pulls her hair out*. Name drop/engage others as much as you can using the @insert_name_of_another_fashoinista function. You can switch to an upper class gushing tone if arranging to meet someone: "sooo looking forward to seeing you darling, can't wait for a proper catch-up, it will be sooo nice" etc.

4) The Folleague (or Foll for short)
The Folleague (fashion/colleague) is not to be confused with Froleague (friend/colleague). It is someone you either work with or used to work with or just know vaguely in some sort of nebulous fashion/work capacity. Do not confuse this person with someone who is actually your friend. You must limit your interaction to a smile, nod or refer to point no. 1. Do not expect The Folleague to ever return your call/email/text/tweet/facebook message. It is a relationship based on a weak grimace/smile twice a year at The Shows. If there is no-one else to talk to The Folleague may decide to use you as her Fashion Decoy until someone more useful/appropriate/higher-up/better dressed comes along. Do not expect an introduction to this new person. Instead be prepared to be dropped faster than a Primark paper bag. Move on.
There is also the Folleague that you sat next to/assisted/interned for (yes, even if you were her PA for 4 years) doesn’t ever say hello or acknowledge you. If that Folleague ever does say hello you must employ Point 1, The Fashion-Stop-And-Chat immediately. And then Move On.

5) The Door Man With A God Complex.
Easily identifiable, The Door Man With A God Complex will have a standard issue dark suit on and will most likely be heard shouting into his walkie-talkie: “I got a lady here say she is called Marie Claire who wants to come in”. Do not loose patience or raise your voice with him, it will not help. Simply go and find The Twelve Year Old With A Clipboard and refer to Point 2.

6) The Holy Trinity
No, I am not referring to MacGibbon, Philo and McCartney (and if you don’t know who they are FORGET IT, do not step foot anywhere near The Shows), I mean Scott Schuman, Garance Dore and Tommy Ton. You should be acutely aware of what they look like and their blogs, and under no circumstances must you hover anywhere near them. If they want to take your photo they will, do not peacock around them. It is, of course, a Very Big Deal if you appear on any of their sites but must act completely nonchalant if anyone compliments you on it. Do not make the photo your Facebook profile.

7) Your Look
Hoik it up about ten notches. As a general rule ask yourself three questions:
1) Would you get stopped by The Sartorialist?
2) If you got stuck in a lift with Emmanuelle Alt would she be impressed?
3) Would you go to Sainsbury’s in your look (if the answer is yes change immediately, unless you do your Sainsburys shop in Balenciaga and vertiginous heels, in which case I salute you and proceed).

8) The Goody Bag
Unless you are in the frow, it is unlikely that you will get a Goody Bag. If you do get one make sure it is just the ONE and under no circumstances must you ever grab-bag or neighbour-pinch. Definite no nos (unless it’s those mini bottles of Champagne in which case what are you waiting for, grab them!)

9) Your Seat
Ideally you want to be in the first three rows. Do not even think about upgrading yourself to the frow, the general rule is, if you can jump up one row. If the seats are labeled with numbers – or indeed names - tread very carefully, if a ticket merely allocates a block and a row you are on safer ground. Timing is everything. Sit and act like you belong, wipe that look of terror off your face and make busy (tweet/email/look at your fashion schedule just do not look panicked – PRs can smell and spot an up-grader a mile off).

10) During A Show
Act composed and interested. A notebook and pen would be advisable and an iPhone/Blackberry to take pictures and upload to your Twitter account immediately is also a must. You can also have a small camera as you may like to put some of the pictures on your blog. Do not take a call during a show (texting is also frowned upon but Tweeting is not). Do not wear sunglasses, you are not Anna Wintour and do not bob your head up and down to the music (not cool).

11) The Stranger Who Knows You
“OMG, it’s been ages, when was the last time I saw you?” is a good line to glean information out of The Stranger Who Knows You and will hopefully give you enough clues to figure out who she/gay he is. Smile inanely and talk about the present, ‘such a beautiful show’ etc. If you can introduce them to someone else with the hope that they will say their name or enquire if they are on facebook/twitter so you can be virtual friends (and find out her/gay his name). 3 minutes is an acceptable amount of time to chitter-chatter with TSWKY. And move on (vowing to stay in touch/catch up/do a ‘glass’ of lunch etc etc).

12) Transportation
If you can, avoid the Fashion Bus; if you can, blag yourself a car with a driver; if you can get a black cab (or ‘black bus’ to use fashion parlance). If you can’t, team up with someone who can.

Do you remember the collaboration I did with Maybelline last year? I joined forces with the incredibly talented and highly-acclaimed make-up artist Sharon Dowsett (Maybelline's UK director for make-up) to do a sort of Show Me Your Make-up shoot with the divine Kemp Muhl. We used her clothes (or in some instances none as "this is how I am most comfortable at home") and matched the make-up to the look. The Sunday Times STYLE did a beautiful feature on the collaboration today (thank you Edwina!) and so now I can finally post all the pics from that shoot, hope you enjoy, and err, how unnervingly beautiful is Kemp in every combo! Yikes.

Back in December I did an 'essential trends for the new season' shoot for The Independent and had all but forgotten about it until this morning as, much to my delight, there it was on the cover of the magazine! Joy! (Cue much squealing.)

Show Me Your....Elizabeth Lau!

A couple of weeks ago the delightful Elizabeth Lau asked me to shoot her A/W 11 look book, her idea was genius: shoot bloggers, girls-about-town, DJs and general friends of the brand all in Elizabeth Lau mixed with their own clothes, a sort of 'Show Me Your Elizabeth Lau' as it were. I particularly love Susie Bubble (and her boyfriend Steve) in the cockney rhyming slang 'having a bubble' jumpers (how apt!) and DJs Broken Hearts in, well, broken heart jumpers...

What a fun afternoon yesterday's denim-blogging-bonanza at Selfridges turned out to be!

Melanie Rickey (of FashionEditorAtLarge) and her Fashion Junior At Large, George "looks likes a cross between Peaches Geldoff and a candy-floss machine" were on hand to talk denim and blogging; Jim and Julia on film; The Work It girls on turn-tables; The Urbanist on canvas and Cherry, Kitty and Anna on Denin Duty.

I had a lovely chat with Paige founder, Paige Adams-Geller (who incidentally was the most requested denim fit model in the states for over a decade before she launched her eponymous label), and if you're in town today go and check it out, last denim-day today!

It's been ages since I've posted anything, apologies. The irony is my blog is now generating a lot of commissions and collaborations and sometimes I have to pinch myself I find myself back-to-back with projects that I can't post just yet, so please bear with me for a little while longer....

In the meantime let's talk about Selfridges and their rather fabulous and exciting three-day blogger bonanza. As you may be aware, I have a section on Selfridges.com called Self Style where I take pictures of stylish shoppers. If not take a quick look here: Self Style.

To celebrate Europe's longest denim wall (I mean seriously, have you seen how many jeans are on offer on the 3rd floor - YUM!), Selfridges have brought together (what they fabulously call) "fashion royalty", otherwise known as me, Melanie Rickey from FashionEditoratLarge, Sasha Wilkins from LibertyLondonGirl, Fred Butler and Kiki Georgiou to host a unique "blogger's bar" and chat denim. Fabulous indeed.

The good people at Armani asked me to shoot their new optical collection on 100 gorgeous Londoners, so what did I do? Hit the streets with a box of Armani glasses and my trusty team, Team Show Me Your Armani (thanks Shimmy and David!)

7 days later and voila, 126 (we got a bit carried away) black and white street style shots of the people we thought looked swell in a pair of specs. And to top it all off they were exhibited at the 20/20 store on Tottenham Court Road, thank you all for coming to check out your photo! Amazing turn-out and fabulous night. Grazie mille.

Girl Meets Boy

I used to shoot a feature called 'Natalie Hartley Wears' for The Sunday Times STYLE magazine, it ran for just under a year until Natalie (brilliant stylist, brilliant friend) left STYLE to go to In Style (confusing I know), so I was delighted that we were able to team up again to shoot 'Girl Meets Boy'; a feature inspired by fashion's current obsession for all things boy and next month's launch of Net-a-Porter's hot new menswear arm, Mr Porter. Natalie had to dress in guys' threads for a whole week and I got to document it (as you can imagine we had a hoot doing this shoot).

This feature runs in the January issue of British In Style, out now.

A shoot for Milk...

Digital innovation at its finest...

Facebook, Tweeting, Blogging, iPad, iPhone...how very October 2010. Now my peeps it's about architectural mapping. Huh? Oh you know, you know, think Inception the movie (yes the one with Leonardo DiCaprio sneakily getting in your head and stealing all those dreams and climbing up impressive CGI staircases that lead you in a continual loop). Is it 3D? Is it a hologram? Am I actually in a room with Leonardo DiCaprio? All that sort of thing. Well, last night Ralph Lauren be-dazzled audiences with "the ultimate collision of fashion, art and technology" (aka a splash of physics a dash of space and a pinch of time). What am I talking about? A "4-D" experience which last night translated into New Bond Street being closed to traffic and hundreds of people being treated to a visual and olfactory spectacular, or as David Lauren (son of Ralph, Senior Vice President, and - to quote Nowness.com - "the driving force behind the company's formidable online prowess") succinctly put it "a light show created by superimposing optical effects created by pinpointed pixels of light over a projected 3-D replica of the building". I had the pleasure of his undivided attention for a private chat just before everyone started pouring in (they do look after bloggers very well at RL it has to be said). This my friends is the future, only the clever people at Ralph Lauren are making it their present. What a way to celebrate the 10th anniversary of RalphLauren.com and launch RL e-commerce in the UK. And if you really think about it the impressive thing isn't just the welcoming of digital innovation with open arms, it's that a company known for its classic and traditional aesthetics is doing it. Very clever indeed.

Just spotted Vogue.com's lovely coverage of my collaboration with Maybelline. Wow! What an honour. I cannot tell you how happy mentions like this make me, okay, I'm sort of telling you by doing this post...but seriously, very, very elated right now :-)

In case you missed it, Maybelline and I teamed up for a 'Show Me Your Make-up' (I know, I know, we're geniuses) collaboration whereby we created a blogging-meets-fashion-meets-beauty set up: a pop-up luxury studio at St Martins Lane Hotel. The very beautiful Kemp Muhl and Jameela Jamil modelled, I took the pictures and the very talented Sharon Dowsett did make-up. We also invited people to join us exclusively on set and Vogue wrote it up beautifully (with a few behind the scenes photos thrown in), see below.

And can I just say, how little do I look next to Jameela Jamil!

First and foremost, the exclusive Vogue Fashion Night Out t-shirt and tote bag will be on sale throughout the evening at Selfridges and ALL the proceeds will go to the Kids’ Company charity.

The line-up is jam-packed and impressive:

I had the pleasure of knowing Corinne Day as around seven years ago I spent a week with her and Mark (her husband) in Capri. It was a work trip but very friendly and informal, I even fell in love with her assistant Matthew and ended up marrying him. Needless to say it was a brilliant week; I got to see a photographer I have always admired at work and fall in love. I worked with Corinne since that trip but mainly spent time with her and Mark on a more sociable level. She was an extremely fascinating person with much warmth and a huge talent who will be dearly missed.

Sleep well Corinne.

SWAROVSKI CRYSTALLIZED COLLABORATION - THE POP-UP STORE

I am so proud to share with you the exclusive - live for a limited time only - pop up store collaboration I did with Swarovski Crystallized. We teamed up and shot real people (as opposed to models), mixing in Swarovski Crystallized jewellery with their own clothes. I shot and styled the shoot and wanted to say A HUGE THANK YOU to everyone involved. It was so much fun to do and now I just want all the jewellery...(hint hint)

The lovely people at Japanese ELLE asked me to shoot a few cool London girls for the September issue. I shot the very gorgeous Amy Bannerman (from British ELLE) and the delightful Susie Bubble, and to my surprise they asked me to be in the feature too!

Up until a couple of years ago I was a stylist and a stylist only, then I got myself a blog, fell in love with photography (well, I'd always loved it really) and started taking pictures for ShowMeYourWardrobe.com. As a result of all your support (reading the blog, leaving comments, sending me lovely emails etc) it's been able to grow and my photography has grown with it. I am now lucky enough to get commissioned by various magazines to shoot for them and I wanted to share this latest story with you. It's not strictly speaking ShowMeYourWardrobe related other than without this blog I wouldn't have made the transition from stylist to photographer. So a BIG thank you for all your support and I hope you enjoy the shoot.

As you know, twice a month I have the pleasure of shooting Selfridges' most stylish customers for SELF STYLE, an exclusive section on the Selfridges.com website (if you missed this, see earlier post)....well, to add the fabulousness of it all Selfridges have now launched The Shoe Galleries (as a little taster of what is to come as they will be unveiling the newly revamped, 2nd floor shoe emporium in September along with a brilliant campaign by one of my favourite photographers, Bruce Weber), here is a little snippet and of course, my 'shoe story'...enjoy!
